Magic Loop Socks Four sessions: September 12th and 19th - 2 weeks to get to the heel turn, then October 10th and 17th to finish Instructor: Jean Hunter Skill level: Must be proficient in cast on, knit and purl, know how to decrease and have general knowledge of knitting. In four sessions you will learn the magic loop cast on, done on one circular needle, how to turn a heel, and make the perfect toe for your wonderful hand knit socks. This technique can be used in all types of circular knitting. There will be a materials list in the shop, and of course all sorts of yummy yarns to choose from, so you can come all prepared. Classes are Wednesday night from 6-8 FAVT member $40.00 Non member $48.00
Felted Critter Class Saturday September 22, 10:00-5:00 Instructor Jen Leak Skill level: Beginner Learn two felting techniques. Wet felt and needle felt to create a creature of your choice. Introduction to Locker Hooking Saturday September 15 10:30-3:00 Instructor: Nancy Kelly Skill level: Beginner Materials fee: Purchase materials at shop or bring your own. FAVT Members $38.00 Non Members $48.00 Locker Hooking is a type of rug hooking in which yarn, fabric strips or roving are used in combination with canvas cloth, a long hooked needle, and twine to create lovely pieces which may be used for pillows, placemats. bags and rugs.
Knitted Felted Baseball Cap Thursday September 27th 6:30-8:30 Instructor: Anne Gottier Skill Level: Advanced beginner A great fashion statement for the fall. Knit the cap in class, (or at least the tricky part, finish at home if need be), wash in hot soapy water in your washing machine, and voila you have a trendy chapeaux to wear to keep your head warm in style. Any follow up just come in on Thursday for sit and knit, and you can get all the help you need. Must know how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off. Materials list in shop. Members $25.00 fee Non Member $30.00

Community Fund Accepting Fall Grant Applications
The Cavendish Community Fund has announced that it is now accepting applications for Fall 2007 Grants. The application period will remain open until October 1, 2007.
Grants will be made for educational or cultural purposes and the money may only be used for programs that will primarily benefit Cavendish residents. The application process consists of a one-page form, available as described below, and an attached statement. The statement must describe the applicant’s background, list the project’s goals, and specify who will benefit and when the project will occur or be completed. Also required are a project budget and a list of staff.
Interested persons should call Peter LaBelle at (802) 226-7250 or Barbara Dickey at (802) 226-7187 for instructions on how to apply, for help in assembling the information required in the application, or for details on who is eligible to receive a grant. Information is also available by writing to the fund at P.O. Box 605, Cavendish, VT 05142, or by picking up instructions and a Cover Sheet at Crow’s Bakery on Depot Street in Proctorsville. August Cavendish Calendar
August 6 (Monday): GMUHS will have fall sports sign ups for soccer
and cross-country from 7:30 to 8:30. FMI: 875-2146.
August 14 (Tuesday): All entries for the August 15 Recycle Edition of
the Cavendish Update must be submitted. Send them to margoc@tds.net
August 16 (Thursday): Community Luncheon will be held at 11:30 am at
St James United Methodist Church, Main Street, Proctorsville. This month's
menu consists of apricot glazed chicken, pasta salads, a green salad, hot
rolls and choice of coffee, iced tea or lemonade as beverage. Dessert will
be ice cream with a variety of cookies. This fun event is open to residents
and visitors alike. A suggested donation of $3.00 for seniors or $4.50 for
