Editor of Vermont Journal Biased

I would like to welcome Mr. Leo Graham as editor of “The  Vermont Journal”.  It comes as no surprise to me that one of his first editorials is a rant against Black River High School.  It seems his personal agenda is to get Mt. Holly and Ludlow to shut down Black River and send our children to Green Mountain High School, which is in the town HE calls home, Chester.  Unfortunately, he now has a soapbox to stand on and rail at will against decisions made by the towns of Mt. Holly and Ludlow regarding our schools.  According to him, the only thing wrong with the Green Mtn. High School is that there are some board members that didn’t like the principal. He neglects to tell us of the shape of the high school facilities, their labs, or the level of professionalism of their staff.  There is no discussion at all by Mr. Graham about the declining enrollment faced at Green Mountain or the trouble they are having dealing with increasing taxes due to this decline.  Mr. Graham, you are the editor of the paper.  I call on you to stop printing your biased opinions, and show both sides of the story so people can make an informed decision.  Mr. Graham, our schools mean a lot to us, and we are trying our best to do what’s right for our children and our communities as we see fit.  I’m sorry this doesn’t agree with your way of thinking, but then again, you aren’t from around here, are you?  So please butt out.  The fate of the Black River High School rests in the hands of Mt. Holly and Ludlow.  We will decide what’s best for our children without the intrusion of outside opinions.  And please, the next time you chose to write an article about the shape of the facilities at Ludlow, do your homework.  I for one know the truth of the shape of the buildings.  They certainly aren’t dilapidated, and to say they have not been that well tended borders on libel against the maintenance staff of the school.  Stop in Mr. Graham.  Take a walk around.  No our facilities aren’t the best in the world, but they certainly aren’t what you are grossly misrepresenting them to be.  You should be ashamed of yourself.

Those of you reading this Black River Reporter mostly live in the midst of its happenings.  There are at least two of us, abiding far to the south, who avidly devour every word.  It's our weekly fix on Green Mountain life.

This week, we especially enjoyed Calvin Coolidge's passionate quote on Vermont.  We heartily concur.

Thanks for including us in your "mailings",
